The Checkered Giant Enhancement Project,

This project is one of the Crossbreeding of the Flemish Giant and Checkered Giant breeds. The purpose of this project it to bring back lost qualities to the Checkered Giant breed gene pool that have been bred out by breeding finer light boned recessive animals . Heavy bone is a dominate trait , once it is gone it is gone. so the only way to re introduce it is to breed back to heavy boned dominate animals in order for reconciliation of the lost soundness and correctness of the frame work of the checkered giants. This project started in July of 2015 and this link is the link of the trace ability of the animals used and created from this project. It is about putting Yesterdays bone on todays style rabbit.

more individuals will be added as they mature and are bred into the program. i have bred full circle.Meaning that i also bred the Half breed F1 Crossbreeds not only back to Checkered Giants to enhance the Checkered Giant. But Also bred them back to Flemish giants to Create a larger flemish F2 like rabbit with the broken coat pattern ingrains so i can breed them F2 3/4 bred flemish back over to f2 and f3 3/4 and 7/8 bred checkered giant in order to promote cycling back in the big mass and frame while refining the markings back over the resulting off spring. these will be documented under line bred backs further down the page.

Below Are the links to the rabbits used as breed backs of the F series or  enhancement rabbits. Examples of such, is crossing F1 lines over to other F1 Blood Lines (F1-A1 bred over to F1-B2) resulting in (F2-AB) blood line.... or breeding F1 half breeds F1-B2) Back to Flemish resulting in (F2-BE) line...(Each Flemish used in this project is given a blood line letter designation . such as BDO20 is blood Line E) See index above for designation of flemish blood lines. THE REASON THIS IS DONE, IS TO PREVENT BOTTLE NECKING THE GENE POOL IN THE PROJECT AND NOT LINE BREED TO HEAVY WHILE KEEPING A GOOD HEALTHY AMOUNT OF GENETIC DIVERSITY AND VIGOR IN THE PROJECT. this also helps to prove out consistency in the cross breeds from blood line to blood line to see if any common faults or strengths crop up and how to correct or enhance such traits.
